This tutorial assumes that your LDAP credentials are set up correctly on the Samba server. If you have issues connecting, open an access request ticket in Jira. |
Connecting to a share
First, open an Explorer window and type this: \\firstsun.ucsd.edu
Press enter, and you will be prompted for a username and password. Use your LDAP credentials that were set up earlier.

If you are connecting from a non-domain laptop, you may need to specify your domain like this:
If you are still unable to login, open an access request ticket. |
Once connected, you will see a list of shares on that server.
Select the share that you are looking for, and you should be able to copy files from (and to if you have the privileges for it) the share like any other folder.
Mounting a share
If you want to mount the share persistently as a network drive, follow these steps:
- From any Explorer window, go to Tools -> Map Network Drive
Pick a drive letter to use and enter the full UNC path to the share. For example, here we are using drive letter T: and mounting the share
\\firstsun.ucsd.edu\tera5
Ensure that "Reconnect at logon" is checked if you would like this mount to be persistent.
Info If you are on a non-domain laptop, you may need to specify the domain as mentioned earlier by clicking "Connect using a different user name" and entering the credentials using the format below.
